In January, 2016, Chicago was listed by a national pest control as the number one city in the US for bed bugs. This is based on the number of bed bug treatments serviced after detecting them according to an article published by the Chicago Tribune.
Further, this is the fourth year in a row that Chicago topped the list. It seems the Second City isn’t so second when it comes to bed bugs. New York rose on the list to No. 4 after ranking No. 18 the prior year.
The article went on to point out that bed bugs are not necessarily a condition related to uncleanliness but affects “upscale homes and hotels, movie theaters, schools and in public transit.” Bed bugs “travel” in luggage, backpacks, clothing and other personal belongings. They are the ultimate “hitch hiker”!
